2015 Limited Release Rockpile Zinfandel
This wine exhibits aromas of red cherry, cinnamon and wild berries. The flavors of raspberry coulis, red fruit and allspice are accompanied with smooth, soft tannins and spiced finish.
Grapes from the Rockpile Appellation are one of the most sought after in California. The appellation is only 148 acres and only 17 wineries produce wines from this appellation. The Rockpile AVA is located at the very end of Dry Creek Valley overlooking Lake Sonoma. Most of the Rockpile vineyards sit at over 1,000 feet and up to nearly 2,100 feet elevation. The top soils are very shallow and dry with areas of small rocks and gravel. The climate is dry and Lake Sonoma creates an inversion layer, sucking the fog down to the surface which adds to the dryness. The results of these growing conditions are small berries in loose bunches and lower yields, but highly concentrated fruit.
Our Rockpile Zinfandel pairs beautifully with many international cuisines and slightly spicy dishes such as Japanese Pork Katsu Curry. Zinfandel is the ideal wine to serve with burgers. Try a Kobe beef cheeseburger with smoked Gouda, caramelized onions and sautéed mushrooms. Select cheese with bold flavors; Sonoma dry jack and Manchego are recommended.
