2010 Transcendent Cabernet Sauvignon

WINEMAKER'S NOTE

Deep crimson in hue, Transcendent imparts exquisite floral aromas of violet framed by decandent notes of cassis, blackberry and brown sugar spice. Velvety, plush tannins and elegant structure deliver a full, yet delicate mouthfeel layered with complex flavors of ripe dark fruit, earth, red cherry and cedar. Rich and refined, ample lingering fruit persists thought a lush and regal finish.

VINTAGE

The 2010 vintage, remembered as on of the coolest wine growing seasons on record, ultimately delivered extrordinary conditions ideal for the benchmark style that we had long envisioned for Transcendent. A late August heat spike ushed the fruit to optimal maturity, prompting harvest in mid-September. The extended growing season enabled the fruit to mature at a slow pace, allowing for balanced flavor and tannin development while retaining the grapes' natural acidity. The result was an exceptional vintage for crafting refined, elegant wines highlighted by a harmonious combination of concentrated color, rich texture, complex flavor and structure.

VINICULTURE

Transendent is crafted from a selection of Napa Valley's most pretigious appellations and premire vineyard sites. From teh mountain elevations and colcanic soils of Mt. Veeder, Atlas Peak and Howell Mountain, to the respected valley floor of champions, Oakville and Oak Knoll District, the top-end library of contributing sites translates into a layered wine of impressive complexity.

WINEMAKING

Thoughout the growing season, our winemakers visited each vineyard block regularly. Harvest decisions were particularly crucial in 2010 due to the unusual weather patterns' effect on grape maturity, sugar level and acidity. The fruit for Transcendent was hand-selected and hand-harvested during the cool early morning hours to ensure the concentrated fruit flavors were captured and preserved. The grape clusters were sorted, and de-stemmed, the berries were then hand-sorted and moved to tank. After a five-day sold soak, yeast was added to commence fermentation. Following the completion of fermentation, the wine was gently pressed and moved into a selection of Frech oak barrrels to mature. Transcendent is the culmination of countless rounds of blind tastings, blendings, evaluations, barrel aging and more than three years of anticipation. Trancendent promises to redefine Napa Valley Cabernet Sauvignon and indulge a tasting experience that trancends beyond one's wildest imagination.
