Merlot

Our 2006 Merlot shows complex aromas and flavors of baked cherry pie, wild strawberries, candied apple, hazelnut, orange peel, savory spice, cassis, dark chocolate and dried rose which follow through to the finish. This wine, with its rich balanced palate, bright fruit and well knit tannins, is showing beautifully now and will continue to age gracefully for several years.

We picked the fruit for our 2006 Merlot from a small vineyard in the center of the renowned Oakville district of Napa Valley. During aging, we blended in a small amount of Cabernet Franc which added to the wine’s complexity and depth of flavors. The fruit was picked by hand early in the morning. The grapes were then destemmed and fermented in small vats. Once fermentation was complete, the wine was drained and gently pressed into a selection of French oak barrels and allowed to develop and age for 24 months until bottling.

This subtle, fruit-forward wine is a delicious accompaniment with savory foods such as braised lamb, grilled fillet mignon, chicken Caesar salad, fresh pasta marinara, prawns and prosciutto or with a dessert of chocolate truffles and fresh strawberries.
